CNC lathe machines manufacturers and exporters in nigeria

Nigeria has been one of the most served international market for Esskay Lathe & Machine Tools. An accomplishment we are very proud of. Nigeria has been a booming economy holding vast manufacturing capabilities.

India has an investment of about $20 billion in Nigeria & Nigeria is the biggest partner of India in the continent of Africa. Esskay is a leading manufacturer and exporter of CNC lathe machines in Nigeria.

An introduction to CNC lathe machines

Being used since the 19th century, lathe machines have been among the oldest machines churning out the industrial requirements of the modern world and today charged with the CNC systems they form the very bases of material requirements of modern industries. CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. CNC is a method for automating the machine tool control by a software installed in a micro-computer connected to the tool. CNC lathes are used for precision levels as high as ±0.0005 inches (±0.0127 mm). Also, they are very reliable for producing back-to-back parts with very minimum difference.

What do CNC lathe machines do?

Conventional Lathe machines are machine tools, primarily used for Manually removing unwanted parts of a workpiece( normally wood or metal) by performing various actions such as cutting, drilling, deformation, facing, threading and turning to create an object with symmetry.

Cnc Lathe machines are equipped with Computer Numerical Control systems and guided by precise design instructions in which the main spindle clamps and rotates the material and the cutting tool is mounted and moves along various axes. (to operate on material)

Cnc lathe machines are used in a vast variety of industries, ranging from automotive, healthcare and aerospace as they come in a versatile number of configurations capable of producing products ranging from large items like automobile frames to small items like garden tools. A conventional lathe machine is manually controlled by an operator, whereas a cnc lathe machine is run by a programmed SYSTEM (CAM/CAD sometimes) , either directly on the machine or off-line using a cam/cad system for more complex shapes.

Parts of a CNC lathe machine.

Headstock

Headstock comprises of the main spindle, the speed change mechanism and the change gears. If your headstock can handle high torque at low speed, then it can put out high performance.

CNC Lathe Bed

CHECK The bed is actually the base of all the major parts of the machine. The bed ensures that the tailstock and the carriage are in perfect parallel alignment to the axis of the spindle.

Feed screw or Lead screw

Along with the gears, the feed screw drives the carriage mechanism and acts as the drive shaft for the machine. The lead screw and feed screw function together with the spindle on the workpiece to make the correct quantity of screw threads on workpiece.

Carriage

As per the operator’s command, the tool bit inside the carriage rotates likewise in the perpendicular or longitudinal direction. On other machines, a hand wheel is used for this purpose whereas on a CNC machine, the operator sets this up on the machine.

1 Cross-slide

It has a main spindle axis and a lead screw. The lead screw traverses (in one direction at a time) at right angle along the main spindle axis when doing facing operations.

Tailstock

In case of machining long or extra-long components, Tailstock is used to give an extra gripping force on the other end of the component to provide stability during machining.

Foot Switch or Foot Pedals

(Foot switches are used to actual/move the chuck and tailstock quill.) The CNC machinists control the chuck’s movement for gripping the component with the help of these pedals, just as the tailstock quill is moved forward or backward with their help.

Guard

The guard is used for protection. It fully encloses the dangerous sections of CNC.

Vice

It firmly grips the workpiece in the required position for cutting or shaping .

Motor
  • The motor is used for rotating the chuck.
  • Chuck Attached to the main spindle, chuck is used to hold the workpiece throughout the machining process.
Cutting Tool

Crafted of superior-quality steel, it carves the material/part.

Different types of CNC lathe Machines

CNC machines are available in a wide range of specifications with each type suited to meet specific machining requirements. One needs to understand the different types of cnc lathe machines available to pick the perfect one for their machining processes. The different axes represent the different ways for movements and orientations of machining tasks.

2-Axis CNC Lathe

This is the basic setup of CNC lathe machines. It works on 2 linear axes – X and Z. The x axis works on the diameter while the z axis works on the length. This setup is ideal for parts with uniform shapes like rods and shafts and is basically used in mass production because of its efficiency

3-Axis CNC Lathe

The 3-axis CNC Lathe machine adds one more axis – Y axis making it more versatile than the 2-axis lathe machine. The Y-axis works in perpendicular direction to the X and Y Axes, making it capable of off-centre milling processes. These machines excel in parts with irregular shapes and features. Aerospace and medical industries often make use of these machines.

4-Axis CNC Lathe

To enable the spindle to rotate at the right angle to the cutting plane an additional axis c-axis is added to the CNC lathe machine. It enhances the machine’s capabilities for complex shapes and patterns. These machines can carry out operations away from the workpiece’s centreline.

5-Axis CNC Lathe

In these machines, a second turret is integrated in a 3-axis lathe machine, making it possible to work on the workpiece from any angle. These machines are utilized for machining parts with irregular shapes.

6 or More Axis CNC Lathe

These machines can makeover the tool and the workpiece simultaneously in several directions to produce highly complex parts. These machines can do a combination of turning, milling, drilling, and engraving within a single configuration.
