What does a surface grinder machine do?
A surface grinding machine is a precision machine where a rotating abrasive wheel, known as a grinding wheel, is used to remove material from a workpiece in the form of small chips to make the workpiece smooth and precise and to give it a shiny appearance by removing the impurities or oxide layer present on the workpiece.
Our surface grinder machines in Nigeria have a stout construction and cost less on tooling. A work holding device also known as Chuck holds the workpiece in place. It can do this by two methods. The ferromagnetic and non-metallic pieces are clamped using either vacuum or mechanical clamping mechanisms and ferromagnetic workpieces are firmly held in position by magnetic chucks that employ powerful electromagnetic forces. When a magnetic chuck is available, a machine vise made from cast iron or ferromagnetic steel can be placed onto it, enabling it to grip and securely hold non-ferromagnetic workpieces during grinding.
In situations where a magnetic chuck is available, a machine vise made from cast iron or ferromagnetic steel can be placed onto it, enabling it to grip and securely hold non-ferromagnetic workpieces during the grinding operation.
Surface grinder machines are equipped with a table that spans longitudinally as well as across the face of the grinding wheel. When aiming for highly precise values, a process is carried out "until the sparks are out," a phrase that refers to continuing the grinding operation until no more material removal occurs through the generation of sparks.
Cast iron and mild steel include some of the materials that our clients use as workpieces on our surface grinders along with many others.
As the grinding wheel quality is very important in grinding solutions we build our wheels to withstand immense pressures and for long life. Aluminum Oxide, Silicon Carbide, Diamond, and Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) are most commonly used to make the surfaces of grinding wheels. A wheel dresser or grinding dresser is used to groom the surface of the grinding wheel, playing a crucial role in maintaining the performance of the grinding wheel. These tools are used to restore the original round shape of the wheel, exposing fresh abrasive grains for enhanced cutting action and removing clogged or glazed areas. The usage of grinding dressers is an important aspect of the grinding process, as it directly affects the quality of the finished surface, the efficiency of material removal, and the operation's overall productivity.
